Shueilii Snake Kiln, located in Shueili Township, Nantou County, was established in 1927 and is the most well-preserved wood-fired snake kiln in Taiwan that is still in operation today. The kiln’s body stretches 26 meters in length, winding like a snake, and was once an important site for firing everyday pottery. The park combines traditional pottery craftsmanship with tourism and leisure; visitors can tour the historic kiln and museum to learn about the history of Nantou pottery, and personally experience pottery-wheel throwing, hand-building, and painting. The on-site Taolin Art Gallery regularly hosts exhibitions by both local and international ceramic artists, and the venue offers unique souvenirs and pottery-themed dining, delivering the full experience of “appreciating clay, playing with clay, and tasting clay.” The annual Kiln God Festival is a major local event, featuring performances, craft markets, and blessing ceremonies that showcase the cultural charm and vitality of this century-old kiln site.
